With the release of Joomla 2.5, the ACL of your Joomla CMS will be more comfortable. You can add new users, user groups or access levels and combine them with each other. You can manage the access control in the User Manager of your Joomla 2.5 Administration. Use the path: "Joomla 2.5 Administration" - "Users" - "User Manager"
That remains and that is new!
Users:
New: You can assign a user to more than one user group.
User groups:
The seven user groups of Joomla 1.5 were taken in Joomla 2.5.
Difference: You can edit the existing user groups and create new groups. If you missed the "Super-Administrator", he is now called "Super User".
Viewing Access Levels:
In Joomla 1.5, you could choose between three access levels - Public, Registered and Special.
New: In Joomla 2.5, you can add new access levels and edit the existing access levels, how you like.
You can also combine any access level with any user group.
Standard settings for the predefined access levels:
The standard setting for the access level "Public" is "Public", like in Joomla 1.5.
The standard setting for the access level "Registered" is "Manager", "Registered" and "Super User".
The standard setting for the access level "Special" is "Manager", "Author" and "Super User".
For a new access level you can define, which user groups have access to this level. This also applies to existing access levels.
Moreover this, you can assign permissions to any user group or access level. A permission can also inherited from a parent category in Joomla 2.5.
