Whats new in Joomla 2.5?

On 1. January 2012, the Joomla 2.5 final released, but what's new?

Joomla 2.5 offers these new features:

1. Database Update with one click.

With the new Database Update Function you can check if your database is current, after a upgrade or update. You can find this new function in the "Joomla 2.5 Administration" - "Extensions Manager" - "Database". To check this function click on the "Fix Button" next to the "Options Button".

2. Language Overrides 

With this function it is possible to override parts of languages in the backend, where ever you want. You can find the "Language Overrides" function in the "Joomla 2.5 Administration" - "Extensions Manager" - "Language Manager" - "Overrides". To add a new language override click on the "New Button" top left.

3. Make notes about Users

The User Manager has been supplemented by a new feature, which offers the possibility to add notes about users. To add a note to a user click on the "Add a note - Button" after the user name. The path is: "Joomla 2.5 Administration" - "Users" - "User Manager"

4. Sort "Who is online" by User Groups

The Joomla 2.5 developers equipped the "Who is online - Module" with a filter. Now it is possible to sort "Who is online" by groups of the connected users. "The Who is Online - Module" displays the number of "Guests" (Anonymous Users) and "Registered Users", who logged-in, that are currently accessing the website.

5. Add a "Offline Image"

Now you can add a "Offline Image" of your site, in "Global Configuration". It will be displayed, if your website is offline.

6. More flexible "Filter Option" in "Article Manager"

The "Filter Option" in "Articel Manager" is more flexibel. Now you can sort articels by categorie up to the maximum level 10.

7. Make notes in a "Menu Item"

Make notes in a new or added "Menu Item". To make notes on a added menu item use the path: "Joomla 2.5 Administration" - "Menus" - "Menu Manager" and edit the "Menu Item", in which you add notes. To make notes on a new "Menu Item" use the same path: "Joomla 2.5 Administration" - "Menus" - "Menu Manager", add a new "Menu Item". You can make your notes in the "Note" input field, which shown in the screenshot below this text.

8. E-Mail Notification after a new "User Registration"

Administrators can get a E-Mail, if a new user registered on website.

 9. New ACL Options

In Joomla 2.5 you can add, edit and combine users, user groups and their access levels.
